On Thursday, September 14, 2017, The Ohio Department of Education released report cards for each Ohio School and District. Despite our efforts, the Maple Heights City Schools have not yet met Ohio’s learning standards for our students.

As we continue to improve this year, there are a few positive notes on our report card that we want to highlight:

  • We have seen progress working toward the Third-Grade Reading Guarantee, our 3rd grade reading score increased by 13.30% over the prior year. This means our 3rd grade students are better prepared in reading help them succeed in later grades.

  • K-3 literacy has improved from a F last year to a D on the current report card. This score shows improvements in our efforts to we work with struggling readers in early grades.

  • The district earned a B in Value-Added (Progress) for the Lowest 20% in Achievement. This means in Maple Heights; struggling students are showing growth based on their past performances.

  • Government scores have rose steadily over the last three years at Maple Heights High School. Student scores increased by 38% over a three-year span.

  • We have seen improvements in the Graduation Rate at our high school. The Class of 2016 had a graduation rate of 78.2% which is up 5.1% from four years ago.

While there were positive areas to highlight and reinforce some of the good work being done to help students, our report card also contains some serious news:

  • We earned an F in our Achievement scores in each measured category- Performance Index and Indicators Met. Our students did not perform well on Ohio State Tests compared to their state peers.

  • We also earned an F in Gap Closing for two school years. This means we have not done well to meet the performance expectations for student subgroups in English language arts, math and graduation.
